Bede Park Wildlife Map Children's Play Areas |
The 'Wildlife Map' is full of images of wildlife common to Bede Park and surrounding area, with it's river, trees and canal, it is as an ideal wildlife habitat set in the midst of Leicester City centre. This artwork serves as a landmark feature, seating and a ‘roundabout' for pedestrians and bicycles using the Sustrans cycle route on Leicester's Great Central Way. Situated by beside the Old River Soar, the map depicts the variety of wildlife that can be seen in the area. Children from local schools and several community groups helped to produce the animals, which were made by pushing lino cuts into the clay tiles, to create a relief line in the surface. Glaze stains and a layer of glaze were then applied onto the surface of the tiles. The tiles are strong and graffiti resistant. he artwork is supported by a plinth that has been constructed to appear in the style of the Jewry Wall, (a Roman ruin in central Leicester) using terracotta and limestone. |
